It is mandatory to register and title any boat in Florida that is powered by an engine or is over 16 feet long. [1] A notable exception to this rule is for vessels used, stored, and operated on private ponds and lakes.

Titling and registration occur simultaneously, with the owner bringing the appropriate documents to a Florida tax collector or license plate agent. Boat owners must bring the following to the collector or agent:
