The Ratio Of Rice And Water In A Rice Cooker
For white rice in a rice cooker, I always use the ratio of 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water.
The rice cooker manual has different ratios depending on the rice type, but I hate reading manuals and just remember the ratio that always worked for me :)
How Much Salt In Rice?
I use 1/4 tsp of salt per 1 cup of uncooked rice.

You just started following me on Twitter so I popped over to see your site. YUM!! Now I am hungry. I am not on my computer so I can’t bookmark this, but I will try to remember to do so when I am on my computer. I want to try some of your recipes. I am in the middle of searching your site for one of the pictures at the top. Can’t even tell what it is but it looks yummy. I already found the lemon bars. I wanted to tell you what my husband taught me about making rice in rice makers. We measure with our fingers. We just pour the rice in and then for white rice you want the water to be above the rice halfway up to your first knuckle. For brown rice you want it at least to if not a little past your first knuckle. Perfect rice everytime!
Garrett says:Oh my goodness, thank you! I googled “how to make perfect rice in a rice cooker” this evening and this page was the first thing that popped up. I have been struggling with ratios and following the manual and filling it up to the proper water line marked on my rice cooker and could not for the life of me produce good rice. It was always to sticky or to crunchy. I followed your instructions to a T and the result… PERFECT RICE! Thank you again. I will never make rice another way!
Melissa B. says:I found your site and just made rice with your ratios. I used Jasmine rice and it came out absolutely perfect! Thank you!!
Melanie Mendelson says: Thanks, Melissa! I’m happy that the rice turned out well for you!Senior citizen here. Trying to figure out if I can cook black rice in cooker and how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Melanie Mendelson says:Hi Sandra, You can cook black rice in a rice cooker on the “Brown Rice” setting only (do not use the “White Rice” setting, it won’t work well). Use 1 cup of black rice and 2 cups of water. Melanie
Chef Rob says:My rice cooker does not have a “Brown Rice” setting. it only has Cook and Warm. I have failed miserably at cooking brown and wild rice in my cooker.
Ms Barbara says:Multicookers were made for this! Why u still use rice cookers? It’s time to try something like Redmond 250 (my cooker) – it can boil, fry, bake… Everithing! It can remember any recepie, for example this recepie of rice. Perfect!
Loffy says:Mmm! Delicious, not like others similar, one of the simplest recipes I ever found. I use Redmond 4500 multicooker for cooking and that meal is impressive! In my opinion all the people should try it!
Melanie P. says:Hi Have you ever made rice pudding in your rice cooker? If yes, could you share your recipe? Great name btw ….;-)
Thanks!
Sorry, I never made rice pudding in the rice cooker. However, something that comes to mind is my Instant Pot bread pudding :)
Carolina d says:I am so grateful to you. I’ve had a couple bad batches. During this coronavirus pandemic, I am trying to get better in the kitchen. Being a student, it is very difficult to find time to cook let alone perfect recipes. Thank you so much; my rice looks great.
